Saint Thomas Medical Libraries: Remote Access

Remote Access to Resources

Need to work off the STH network? OpenAthens provides off-campus access to the Saint Thomas Medical Libraries' resources. If a user is on the network, logging into OpenAthens is unnecessary. In addition, those looking to find MOC reading lists will find listings on the OpenAthens site upon login.

*Note: Not all resources that are licensed for STH network access -- including UpToDate -- are licensed for remote access. Please contact your library to confirm whether a specific resource is available via OpenAthens.

Access to OpenAthens

To access the proxy server off-site, visit http://www.openathens.net and login with your username and password. Or, if you are at a site and have not logged into Athens, find and click on a "log on" link and choose OpenAthens.

Mobile Apps for Remote Access to Resources

Downloading the app

This free mobile application allows users to download their AAP eBooks for offline reading on iOS and Android tablets and smartphones. Requires 10 MB storage plus the size of the downloaded eBooks, and a current version of iOS or Android.

  • For Amazon Kindle Fire and other Android-based eReaders, make sure to enable “installation of apps from external sources” in your device settings.
  • The AAP eBooks Reader app is the best option for frequent access to the same title, and/or when a connection is not available.

Activating the app

The AAP eBooks Reader app is free, but an AAP Login is required to view and download titles. There is no device limit per login.

*NOTE: Saint Thomas Health provides Web-based access to AAP eBooks. For institutional users, the login credentials for the eBooks app will be different than those for the eBooks website.
